B.A.F. Furthering the Profession
This year the Birmingham Architectural Foundation awarded three $1,500 scholarships to students attending accredited schools of architecture. Fairfield High graduate, Whitney Johnson and Parker High graduate, Otto Clark are both attending Auburn University. Johnson could not attend the luncheon; she is attending summer school at Auburn. Antonio Minifield, a Ramsay High graduate is in his sophomore year at Tuskegee University. This is Minifield’s second year to be awarded a scholarship from the Foundation. A smiling Minifield was quick in his acceptance speech to let the architects in the audience know, “If any of you have intern positions in your firms, I am more than happy to fill the position for you. I am available after the meeting to discuss.” Due to the economy in the built environment, Minifield was unable to obtain an intern position, but has managed to earn money by selling some of his artwork to friends and family. Please keep these three students in mind if you need interns in the future.
Thank you to everyone who supported the AIA 2009 Annual Golf Tournament. We understand the economy is rough, but our charitable organizations need us even more this year. Save the date for the 2010 Annual Golf Tournament - OCTOBER 7TH, 2010. Robert Trent Jones-Valley and Ridge.
Also, a big Thank You goes to AIA National and it's Component Matching Grant Program for awarding us a $1200 matching grant for scholarships!
