Alabama Center for Architecture Pledge Form

Letter to our Membership

OUR MISSION:
The mission of the Birmingham Architectural Foundation is “architects serving the community” to increase awareness and encourage improvement of the built environment of the Greater Birmingham area.

OUR VISION:
Because architecture so vividly expresses so much about our society and where we are going, the Birmingham Architectural Foundation is dedicated to advancing public interest and education in architecture and related design.

OUR GOAL:
The Birmingham Architectural Foundation (BAF) is a local 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that seeks to educate individuals and community leaders about the power of architecture to improve lives and transform the places where we live, learn, work, and play. We believe that our cities and buildings affect our mental well‑being and quality of life in profound ways. Through its outreach programs, and educational resources, BAF aims to inspire people to become thoughtful and engaged stewards of the world around them. BAF’s programs include dreamArchitecture, Studio i, and the Birmingham Architectural Foundation Scholarship Awards.

Started by the Birmingham Chapter of the American Institute of Architects in 2006, the Foundation's mission is “architects serving the community”. Whether it's making children aware of the world around them through dreamArchitecture in the elementary schools, giving high schools students a glimpse into the professional world of architecture with Studio i, or providing college scholarships through the Birmingham Architectural Foundation Scholarship Awards, the BAF leverages its modest budget to help a region‑wide community.

With the goal of enhancing our community's awareness and appreciation of architecture and the built environment, the Birmingham Architectural Foundation provides funding and volunteer support for a diverse array of programs serving the Greater Birmingham area. These activities provide educational opportunities for the public and involve participation and support from local design and building professionals. Through its ongoing programs and resources the BAF seeks to promote quality in design and to foster an understanding of excellence in the urban environment. To this end, the interested public, as well as design professionals, developers, contractors and business groups are invited to become involved in and support the Birmingham Architectural Foundation.

Since its creation in 2006, BAF has worked to educate people about the power of architecture in their lives.

We would like to recognize and thank the American Institute of Architects Scholarship Program. AIA Birmingham was awarded a matching scholarship through National AIA.
